# LED van advertising: how mobile LED campaigns work

> An LED van is a vehicle fitted with a large LED screen and a sound system that takes a brand’s video to people on planned routes, halting where crowds gather. It suits launches, admissions, real estate site visits and awareness campaigns across many towns. Plan routes around market days and peak hours, keep the video short and readable, follow local noise rules, and ask for dated photographs from every halt.

## What an LED van is

A vehicle with a large LED screen on one or more sides, a sound system and its own power, driven on a planned route by a driver and an operator. Screen sizes vary by van, so check the screen’s proportions before you make the film.

## Where LED vans work

- Launches in towns where you have no fixed media
- Admission campaigns in the towns around a university or school
- Real estate projects that need site visits
- Awareness campaigns across a district
- Roadshows that travel with an activation team

## Planning routes and halts

- Plan day by day: market days, colony timings, school and office hours, and evening crowds.
- Halt where people can stop and watch, and where stopping is allowed.
- Leave time for traffic; a long route with few halts reaches fewer people than a short route with good halts.
- Pair the van with promoters at halts when you want leads, sign-ups or sampling.

## Sound and the noise rules

Under India’s Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, a loudspeaker or public address system needs written permission from the authority. It may not be used at night, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., except in closed premises, or until midnight on a limited number of festival days a year where the state allows it. An area of not less than 100 metres around hospitals, educational institutions and courts can be declared a silence zone. Plan sound around these rules and any local orders, and arrange the permission before the campaign.

## Making the video

- Landscape format, matched to the van’s screen proportions
- The message in the first few seconds, for people walking past
- Large text, your brand on screen throughout, and a phone number or QR code
- Clear audio with a short jingle or announcement; a Hindi version for most towns in Uttar Pradesh
- A loop short enough to be seen in full at a halt

## Measuring a van campaign

- Dated photographs from the route and at every halt
- The planned route against the route run
- Leads, QR code scans, calls and WhatsApp messages
- Enquiries or visits from the towns covered

## Questions

### Are there rules for playing sound from an LED van?

Yes. Under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, a loudspeaker needs written permission from the authority, may not be used between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. except in closed premises or limited festival exceptions, and areas of at least 100 metres around hospitals, educational institutions and courts can be declared silence zones.

### What is the best time to run an LED van?

Market days, mornings and evenings when people are out, and around schools, offices and markets as they open and close. Plan each day’s halts around those moments.

### How long should an LED van video be?

Short enough to be seen in full at a halt, with the message in the first few seconds and the brand on screen throughout.
